Influence of electrode metal on the performance of quartz crystal sensor
The type of metal used in contact electrodes has a significant effect on the ability of quartz crystals to measure film thickness. Therefore, three standard crystalline coatings are available: gold, alloy and silver.
Gold is a kind of popular electrode material. It has the characteristics of low contact resistance, high chemical stability and good deposition performance.
Gold crystal is typically used for metal deposit of low stress, such as gold, silver and / or copper.
When gold is used, frequency deviation is up to 1 MHz and adverse effect does not take place. But the electrode of gold is extremely stiff. Stress is passed to quartz from deposited film. The transformed stress might result in frequency jumping and crystal unstability.
Aerdentalloy are the best electrode for the material deposition of high stress, including SiO,SiO2,MgF2 and TiO2.沉積的高應力材料經(jīng)常由于高張力或壓應力而造成不穩(wěn)定的晶體性能, which cause the bending of quartz and frequency deviation.
The stress of deposited film of alloy are dissipated by plastic yielding or plastic flow. Long before crystal bending under stress or tension, electrode is surrendered and dissipate stress , which helps to form stable crystal of longer stable period and no jump oscillation. Tests in the lab are approved that the lifespan of crystals raise 400% when SIO2 is deposited.
Silver is a kind of comprehensive and excellent electrode material. The contact resistance of silver is low. There is certain extend of plastic yielding. However, silver is easy to lost lustre in the atmosphere with sulfide, which will lead to the increase of contact resistance and decrease film adhesion of deposition in crystal.
Regarding the storage life of quartz crystal sensors and environment of store quartz crystals, we recommend to follow the below principles. Storage life means devices are stored safely and don’t suffer.
Quartz crystal is the device of surface activity and based on frequency.英晶體的保存期限通常適用于其電極化學成分和諧振頻率中的任何變化. Therefore, the storage environment of crystal decide the storage life of sensor.Follow below rules,quartz crystal almost can be stored indefinitely according to the selection of electrode material.Gold crystalQI8010 is the most stable one due to the inertia of gold electrode.
QI8008 and QI8009 are a little more sensitive to chemical contact and temperature because of the adopted alloy and silver electrode adopted respectively.
Temperature: standard indoor temperature between 20-24℃
Humidity: standard indoor temperature between 40%-60%
Chemical contact: do not store crystal in the place with volatile materials, oils, sulfur, halides, ozone, iodine, and oxidant.
Particle contact: do not store crystal in the place full of atoms.Otherwise, properly sealed containers are necessary.
Mechanical contact: do not store crystal in the place with excessive mechanical vibration .
